FAQ

Where is your office located?

We currently offer all our services virtually through telehealth.

Before the session, we will send you a link to connect to our secure platform. It’s easily accessible using your phone or computer.

Update November 2024: We do offer some in-person in our office space in downtown Birmingham. Limited availability.

How long are sessions?

Individual therapy sessions: 50-60 minutes
Meditation sessions: 30-45 minutes
Yoga sessions: 60-75 minutes

We generally recommend that you attend once a week.

How soon can I schedule an appointment?

We are usually able to get you in within a week of calling. Please call today so we can get you scheduled for your first appointment! 248-962-3329.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, for individual therapy. We accept BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) & Blue Care Network (BCN) & Aetna

We have our clients check their own benefits so they understand what they are responsible for. Usually, you will have a deducible or copayment.

How to check:

  1. Call the number on the back of your insurance card
  2. What to ask:
    1. What are my outpatient mental health benefits for Brittany Lutren LLC (note it is not under Niyama Center) using CPT codes 90791, 90837, 90834?
    2. Does my insurance cover telehealth?
    3. Do I have a deductible or copay?
    4. If so: how much is it? how much have I used up already? When will insurance cover my sessions in full?

If you are interested in other wellness services and self-pay options then give us a call today so that we can discuss this in more detail. (248) 962-3329

What if you don’t accept my insurance?

If we are out-of-network with your insurance carrier, we will provide you a Superbill (a fancy name for an invoice) monthly so that you can submit it to your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you for services. I cannot guarantee that your insurance provider will provide reimbursement for services.

You can also pay for services with your HSA card.

What are your fees?

It depends on what service you are looking for! Call us today, and we would be happy to talk with you about pricing. (248) 962-3329

Do you have a cancellation policy?

A 48-hour advanced notice of cancellation is required. If advanced notice is not provided, you will be required to pay a cancellation fee.

Our time and your time are valuable, so we want to make sure that therapy is your priority!

Do you offer phone or video sessions?

Currently, all sessions happen via video using a HIPPA compliant software to protect your confidentiality

With whom do you work?

We work with both women and men who are struggling with anxiety, depression, codependency, autism, ADHD, grief, body image, trauma and more.

We are open to working with any person, and, of course, we are LGBTQ-friendly!

Do your clients receive assignments to work on between sessions?
Of course! We love to give clients tools to work on between sessions so that your time with us is beneficial. We intend to provide you with the support you need for success.
Do you prescribe medications?
We do not! We are completely holistic. However, if you feel like you could benefit from medication, we support that and provide a psychiatrist referral.
What modalities does Niyama Center use?

We use traditional talk therapy such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and other solution-focused and mindfulness practices.

Yoga practices: Pranayama techniques such as Nadi Shodhana (alternative nostril breathing), Sama Vritti (square or wave breathing), and diaphragmatic breathing.

Mindfulness meditation practices: guided visualization, yoga nidra, body-scan, mantra, focused, and yogic meditations.

What can I expect in the first session?

For therapy: we will send you some paperwork to get started on before we meet. This paperwork will go over any questions we have during our first session. It allows us to dive right into therapy! During our first session, it is a structured interview (us asking you questions to get to know you more), answering any questions you have and setting some goals, so we are headed in a good direction!

For yoga/meditation: we will start by learning more about your expectations, goals and hope to gain from the practice. No experience is needed at all!

Does anyone cry in front of you?

Of course! Isn’t that part of the process? At some point in therapy or your meditation practice, you may cry, which is totally normal. Let me tell you, feeling your emotions is a sign of healing.

Why did you create Niyama Center?

Because I’ve never heard anyone ever say to me, “Hey, I’m concerned about this side-effect from my talk therapy, yoga, and meditation practice.”

We wanted to create a holistic space where you could thrive without medication and gain effective tools to live your life while still being you!

What apps make your life better?

This is an easy one! We love meditation apps: headspace & insight timer are our go-to’s

Have you all been in therapy or practice meditation?

Of course!!! We practice what we preach. To be the best therapist to you, we make sure to take care of our mental health!

How long will I be in therapy?

The process is different for every person. During the first session and throughout your time, we will figure that out. We usually say eight months to a year. Our goal is to teach you how to be your own therapist (give you the tools to do so), so you no longer need us!
