Emily, LMSW, DBT & CBT Therapist

Let me help you change your life…

The daily struggles of life can be very difficult – these can be exacerbated by fights with those your closest with, feeling alone or not good enough, or simply being unable to shut off your thoughts for a good night’s rest.

Through our therapeutic partnership…

We will identify together what is getting in the way of where you are now, and where you would like to be. It is natural for people to feel stuck in life, their thoughts, or a cycle of defeating behavior. Sometimes all we know in life is what has been shown to us in the shapes of communication, love, and stress management. Through our sessions, together we will work to re-learn something different.  We will work through your hardships together, creating new pathways to experience life in a way that feels right to you and gets you closer to your goals.

What therapy will look like together…

On this journey together, I will offer new skills that what you may not have used in the past. We will work along-side each other to accept what needs to be accepted and change what does not – it is most certainly a balance, and we will alternate between acceptance and change throughout our time together. Throughout treatment we will identify and target maladaptive skills, thoughts, and behaviors and work to supply different and helpful skills in their place that move you closer to the life you want to live.

In treatment, we will look at the past, the present, and what you desire for your future. When you come to sessions, we will spend time discussing emotions, thoughts, and actions… learning how those impact your relationships, desires, health, and future.

To make sure you are getting the most out of your treatment, we will begin by identifying what has brought you here. We will discuss expectations of treatment and what perhaps has not worked well in the past. In between sessions, you will practice the skills learned in sessions, complete homework, or track different goals being explored at the time. We will review these together and assess how things are progressing, adjusting as needed.

Coming to sessions…

When you come to sessions, we will work together to cultivate a professional, helping relationship where you feel comfortable bringing anything to the table. I approach all my work with a non-judgmental stance and work hard to come to every session with understanding and openness. I have had the pleasure of supporting multiple clients as they have graduated DBT- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and worked towards level three of treatment, further towards their Life Worth Living… it is my desire to help you reach your Life Worth Living too.

About Me

How I can help you…

Through our work in therapy, my objective is to assist you in reaching your goals. Together, we will identify barriers and problem-solve to find healthy ways to overcome them. I will bring empathy, understanding, and a nonjudgmental stance to our time together. It is essential to me that you feel safe sharing things happening in your life and feel supported doing so. Part of treatment will involve consistency in appointments, completing homework discussed in sessions, and practicing coping skills between sessions. With my strong foundation in mental health, we will work together to strengthen your abilities to recognize, coping with, and improve concerns in your daily life. My hope is that through our time together, you will gain confidence, insight, and balance.

Education and training…

I received my Bachelor of Social Work from Central Michigan University & Masters of Social Work from Spring Arbor University.

My experience consists of working with clients through anxiety therapy, depression therapy, borderline personality disorder therapy, bipolar disorder therapy, and neurodivergence.  I enjoy working with teens, young adults, couples, middle-aged females, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. As a therapist I use these modalities/therapy approaches Mindfulness, DBT- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, CBT- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions-Focused, and Motivational Interviewing.

When I am not giving therapy…

I am likely spending time with my corgi, Weston, or playing board games with my partner. I decompress in my spare time with gardening, reading or writing, or the latest Korean drama on Netflix. I am a food-person at heart, so I spend a lot of my time trying different recipes or unique places that pop up around my area. I most regrettably am still trying to perfect macrons at home but have not yet found success.

My goal is to make therapy a positive experience for you…
